Review of 2013
Following on from 2012, I’ve decided to do a review of 2013 with some of the more rare and interesting moves and workings I’ve seen during the year.
On 3rd January, 66847 heads north through Holytown Light Engine with 0Z47 Carlisle Wapping Sidings – Stirling Sidings move.
A livery that is disappearing rapidly is the SPT Carmine and Cream livery, during 2013 a large number of 334’s lost this livery. On 12th January, here is 334016 passing Hillend Loch with a service for Edinburgh Waverley.
A unique liveried 66 is Freightliner’s Bardon Blue liveried 66623 on 12th January in the sunshine, it was seen passing through Holytown with 2 hoppers heading east to the wheel laithe at Craigentinny with 5Z48 Mossend – Craigentinny
Another rare move also on the 12th January was 6C89 Carlisle Yard – Mossend slurry tanker move passing through Holytown with a double header from EWS liveried pair 66197+66145
On 18th January, the snow train top and tailed by 37688 and 37425 came north heading through Uddingston enroute to Glasgow Central with 6Z99 Derby – Glasgow Central
Its very unusual to see a sleeper service at 3pm in the afternoon, yet on 26th January, we had exactly this 90026 passed through with 5S26 London Euston – Polmodie after overhead problems caused it to be stuck at Crewe and cancelled, the ECS was eventually hauled up to Polmodie for servicing
Into Feburary and we see Network Rail’s DMU 950001 passing through Holytown with 2Q08 Mossend – Mossend via Glasgow and Lanark test train on 1st February
On 9th February, newly repainted DRS liveried 57304 was seen heading southbound through Coatbridge Central with 4 barrier wagons in tow, on its way to EG Steele’s yard in Hamilton with 6Z57 Glasgow Works – EG Steele’s yard
2013 saw the final class 320’s in SPT livery repainted. By Feburary, there was only 2 left in Carmine and Cream livery, these were 320310 and 317. Here 320317 is seen in 6 car formation with Scotrail liveried 320313 arriving into Uddingston with the 11.05 service to Lanark on 11th February
The first DB Schenker Red liveried class 90 appeared towards the end of 2012 and it really is a striking livery, here is 90029 stabled in the motorrail bays at the East End of Edinburgh Waverley on 15th February
An extremely late runner on the 22nd of February was 92015 with 6X65 Didcot – Mossend loaded cars train. This service usually arrives at Mossend any time between 6.30 and 8.30am in the morning. In this photo, this particular working is seen passing Holytown at around 4.15pm
On to March now and Cockenzie Power Station is closed down. Coal is normally provided from Hunterston and hauled by a DBS 66. Here on 8th March, a day before Cockenzie closed for good was 66077 heading West through Holytown with 6B72 Hunterston – Cockenzie
In the Summer of 2013, 90036 would lose its Railfreight Grey livery that it had carried for more than 15 years, for a coat of DBS Red. Here it is seen on 9th March heading south through Uddingston with 5B26, Polmodie – Mossend loco move.

On 6th April I tried a new location for me, this was Prestonpans . Here I saw 67030 with 6B44 Oxwellmains – Powderhall binliner train.
On the same day and the real reason for going to Prestonpans was to see a Deltic, no D9009 or 55009 ‘Alycidon’. Rather than stopping in the loop as planned, it passed straight through, 55009 looked amazing in its BR Green livery even with the damaged caused by a pheasant hitting it enroute! 55009 is seen passing Prestonpans with 1Z55 Crewe - Edinburgh 'The Eidyn Burgh Scot' Pathfinder tour

Same day, same loco and different location, this time 55022 is seen at Kilmarnock
